When planning the layout for your sump and refugium, it’s best to not only plan for every piece of equipment, but also build a to-scale model. Cut out pieces of cardboard or poster board to the dimensions of the sump, and lay the equipment into place so that you can actually see how things will fit prior to finalizing the dimensions of the tank or cutting acrylic. After all, it would be a shame to get your sump fully assembled only to find out the skimmer doesn’t quite fit, or all of the equipment fits but the sump doesn’t fit into your stand.
