Algae in the display aquarium doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. In fact, many hobbyists purposefully add algae into the aquarium as a form of decoration instead of just function. These plants include, but are certainly not limited to, Halimeda and the Shaving Brush Plant (Penicillus sp). These plants can be successfully added to just about any reef aquarium, and some hobbyists even have macro algae display aquariums. These tanks are quite different than the norm, as the livestock consists of lots of different colorful algae and little to no corals and certainly no herbivores.
