Pictured in the latest AquaNerd Picture of the Week is an aquacultured Tridacna maxima clam from Oceans Reefs and Aquariums (aka ORA) that was purchased at T&T Fish and Reef. The color patterns are obviously very striking, especially when seen from above. The blue stands out dramatically against the black on the mantle.
This gorgeous little clam looks like it’s of decent size in the photo, but in reality it’s only about 1.5-2″ long. To help this tiny clam transition to the new aquarium, a piece of flat rock was placed underneath it. The clam will eventually attach it’s foot and byssal threads to the rock, cementing it in placeĀ until it decides to move.
