When purchasing an older aquarium, it’s a great idea to inspect the silicone seems, as these are the most crucial part of actually keeping water contained behind the glass. If the seems are old, dry-rotted, or pulling away from the glass, the aquarium may not last very long when filled to capacity. On the other hand, the aquarium may hold water on first fill, and may even hold that water for several months. Despite this, the tank could spring a leak at any point in time, and it may not happen when you are home to take care of the massive onslaught of water that your carpet is about to face.
