Scratches located on the outside of an aquarium can ruin the look of the entire tank. Not only do they break up the view, but they can also get under the skin of any hobbyist who is obsessed with the perfection and visual quality of their aquarium. Fortunately for acrylic aquarium owners, scratches can easily be removed with a buffing wheel and mild abrasive compound. However, the buffing process can leave the acrylic with a distorted appearance that can be far worse than a small scratch. This is usually encountered when the scratch is removed too quickly or when the hobbyists apply uneven pressure to whatever they are using to remove the scratch, such as a sander or drill with a buffing attachment.
