When starting a new dosing regimen or venturing into a new product aimed at reducing nitrate and phosphate, it’s best to start slowly and eventually work your way up to the recommended dosing level. By being careful, your aquarium can slowly adjust to the new media and resulting water parameters, allowing for a much more stable transition. The same can be said for those times when you want to stop dosing a particular item. Don’t quit cold turkey, but slowly ween the aquarium off of the additive. If things are changed too abruptly, the aquarium livestock could suffer.
