It’s good to have a well though out plumbing strategy before buying all of the parts required to get your aquarium up and running. Take a look at where the drains and returns are located, then determine where they will terminate in your sump area. Try to plan out how many bends and turns the plumbing will make in your aquarium’s filtration setup, then head to the hardware store. Get all of the necessities, but also plan on screwing up certain pieces and requiring more PVC fittings than originally thought. Without proper planning, you’ll spend most of your time heading back and forth to the local hardware store getting new pieces and exchanging the wrong items for correct ones, which will drag out your aquarium build and cause multiple headaches.
