Fathead Sunburst Anthias

Pictured in the latest AquaNerd Pic of the Week is a lone Fathead Sunburst Anthias (Serranocirrhitus latus) hanging out in a very cryptic and dim portion of a mixed reef aquarium. Unlike most anthias that school/shoal in small groups, the sunburst anthias actually does better alone or as a male/female pair, provided the aquarium is large enough. These anthias also stay fairly small, are generally pretty hardy, and thrive better in aquariums with tons of caves and subdued lighting. Obviously these are just general guidelines, as these fish have been known to thrive in thoroughly illuminated reef tanks with more than a couple of these and other anthias species.
