Coral identification isn’t always an easy task. Most corals have specific characteristics that make them readily identifiable in the wild, such as growth form and corallite structure. Unfortunately, corals in captivity don’t always follow those same characteristics, and a species may take on an unusual growth form. The reason behind these differencecs between wild and captive corals is due to the difference in water flow rates, avaialble nutrients, light levels, and a whole slew of other things.
