Water changes are the single most effective way to reduce nitrate and phosphate concentrations in the aquarium, while at the same time replenishing certain things that corals and other animals thrive on. Because of this, it’s crucially important to use a high purity sea salt mix and clean freshwater from a reliable source. This way, you have a better chance of removing the maximum amount of algae-fueling nutrients and less of a chance of reintroducing, like what would happen with a low quality salt.
