Dosing instructions for aquarium additives are general guidelines that are designed to just that, a guideline. They don’t take into account any details or water parameters of your setup, and following those guidelines strictly may results in too much or too little of a particular substance being dosed. The only way to find out what you need and how much you need is to get a test kit and get to work. Once you find out what you need, slowly dose the desired additive and continually test the water to see how the aquarium responds.
