It’s easy to quickly jump on the latest and greatest trends in the aquarium industry. From LEDs to biopellets, and everything in between, there’s sure to be something that catches your eye and piques your curiosities. We’ve all fallen victim to this a time or two, and to help you keep from being distracted by these fads, there are two questions you can ask yourself. Does this new technology provide anything that my aquarium is missing? Does the trendy device make my aquarium setup better? If the answer to either of these two questions is no, then walk away. In order for a device to be successful and not a complete waste of money, it needs to provide an immediate and long term benefit. LED lighting, for example, can instantly reduce electric bills and aquarium temperatures, while over the long term save you money and give your corals great coloration. Simluated thunderstorms, on the other hand, do not do anything for you in the short or long term…so why bother with it? These are just two examples that popped into our heads, and there are hundreds more out there. Just think about the usefulness of your purchases before giving into the techy nerd within, and you’ll probably save yourself some money and headaches.
