Tip of the Day – 7/23/2012

Every once in a while, it’s a good idea to feed your reef aquarium a bit heavier than normal. Im not suggesting to go overboard, but add a little more than what your aquarium inhabitants normally receive. Most hobbyists are so worried about excess nitrate and phosphate that they do not feed their aquarium enough. Instead of adding food to the tank a few times a day, or even once a day, they skip a day or two. While this does wonders at keeping algae at bay, it’s not a suitable schedule for healthy fish and corals. Fish health can deteriorate quickly and corals, who rely on nitrate amd phosphate to some degree, can slowly starve despite the presence of high intensity lighting . So, every now and then, turn off those pumps and target feed your corals and somewhat overfeed your fish. They will be much healthier in the long run.
