Pictured in the latest AquaNerd Picture of the Week is an interesting relative of the seahorse and always a favorite of public aquariums, a weedy sea dragon (Phyllopteryx sp.), seen in a display aquarium at Moody Gardens. These gorgeous and graceful Syngnathids are slow moving and spend most of their time drifting about slowly looking for food. This makes them perfect for aquarium goers and photographers alike, as they are constantly out in the open and can be easily seen by all. The sea dragon, as its name implies, sort of resembles a fierce dragon, though it’s only in the looks that it resembles anything dangerous. These intriguing creatures are about as docile as they come.
