Have a dead coral skeleton sitting in your tank or on a bookshelf and need to dispose of it? Well, try putting it to good use. Instead of just tossing it in the trash and running the risk of stinking up your house, crush the coral skeleton and put the piece into your calcium reactor. Just like the aragonite media that’s marketed for calcium reactors, the coral skeleton will dissolved in the low pH environment and will provide calcium, magnesium, and other essential substances that living corals need to thrive. If you need another use for coral skeletons, depending on the shape and size, hey can serve as great areas to attach new coral frags or even be crushed up into even smaller grains to be used as sand.
