If you’re scraping off algae and other stuff off of the aquarium glass, be very careful not to damage the aquarium and not to cut yourself in the process. One of the typical algae decimating tools is a metal blade scraper, which can tear into the silicone seams of the aquarium. That blade can also wreak havoc on your aquarium livestock, which usually occurs when the blade gets too close to soft tissue and lacerates it. In terms of personal damage, you can easily cut your hands on the sharp rocks in the tank, which can lead to a very painful infection. To prevent these mishaps, you can wear gloves and avoid working in tight areas around the live rock.
