Aquarium builds almost never go the way they are planned. No matter how much pre-planning takes place, there is always something that is going to royally screw up your plans. Whether an item is too expensive for the budget or you build the stand too small by just a couple of inches, the fine details can cause some big headaches. Because of this, it’s important to keep your plans fluid and allow for miscalculations. For example, if you have a space that you think is 24″x12″ for a sump, don’t push the limits but make sure to give yourself plenty of wiggle room. It may be tough to sacrifice even a half inch of sump real estate, but it’s better to play it safe instead of having to buy a whole new sump and wasting more money.
