Tip of the Day – 2/19/2013

Not all additives are created equally. There are dozens upon dozens of aquarium supplement producers, and while most typically follow similar formulas, not all of the solutions are made with the same level of precision, consistency, or purity. Some supplements are loaded down with phosphates and even ammonia, causing plenty of problems each and every time they are dosed to an aquarium. Unfortunately, it’s hard to identify which brands are better than the others without listening to the opinions of fellow reef keepers and using a bit of your own trial and error. If you do encounter an issue with a particular product, be sure to remove any of the supplement impurities by running GFO (for phosphate removal) or by performing water changes.
