Even though it’s not quite hurricane season, there’s still plenty of reasons to have a backup generator, or at the very least battery powered air pumps, on hand in case of an emergency. Even mundane storms can cause power outages, and depending on where you live, those outages might last for several hours or even days. And as soon as that power turns off, the water parameters start to take a nose dive. Fortunately, an aquarium can last a while without juice and see no ill effects. But you don’t want your tank to have to experience that, and you certainly don’t want to bet on the power coming back on in a short while.
