It’s really easy to get all worked up and excited when stumbling across a new fish at the local aquarium store, but we will tell you now, avoid impulse purchases. The impulse buys have a far high failure rate than fish that are planned for, as the hobbyist isn’t prepared for that particular species and may not be familiar with all of its requirements. To avoid this behavior, develop a list of acceptable fish species for your setup and stick to it. Research all the fish on your list, taking note of possible diseases, conspecific aggression, and any special dietary requirements.
