When securing shelves and hanging brackets under your aquarium stand, be sure to keep track of all of the screws and nails that you use. It’s really easy to drop these items into the water, and most of them will corrode over a very short period of time, releasing metals into your water. If you do drop a screw or nail into your sump, for example, there’s no need to do a massive water change or anything. Just make sure to remove it in a timely fashion, as in immediately or within just a couple of minutes.
