Tip of the Day – 7/8/2013

When it comes to feeding the fish in your aquarium, there was an old rule of thumb was that favored feeding small amounts of food and to feed no more than what the fish will eat within just a few minutes. While we believe that limiting the amount and time you feed is a staple practice in nutrient control, this approach is also a bit dated and may have a negative impact. That big, expensive cleanup crew that has been in your tank for months has probably already lost a few members, and if you scale back on the food too much, you might lose a few more. Fish are quite active and will aggressively feed at almost every time of the day, as will most invertebrates. So, feed your fish often, just don’t go overboard. You might also need to spot feed certain corals and inverts to make sure they get everything they need.
