We have a special spot in our hearts for the Australian Duncan coral (Duncanopsammia axifuga), and at one point so did many of you. The once wildly popular coral exhibits many characteristics that make it perfect for any reef aquarium. It is very hardy, doesn’t require a ton of light, and actually grows quite fast under ideal conditions. These corals greatly benefit from regular feedings, and will respond by growing new polyps like crazy. For example, a three head frag can turn into well over 50 heads in a year or less. Though it can’t be seen in the image above, the coral has a really tough skeleton that is covered in a green, and often roughly textured skin. This coral has fallen out of the spotlight in recent years, but it still has a decent following, which includes yours truly.
