Picture of the Week, Tyree Fire Echinopora

One of the best looking corals at MACNA this year was tucked away in the booth of ReefKoi Corals. It’s a Tyree Fire Echinopora, and it was a visually stunning piece that we thought went overlooked and unappreciated…except by us of course. This chalice coral is a lot like the Hollywood Stunner, but on steroids. While these frags have a purple base with green polyps, just like the various stunners on the market, the Tyree version has touches of orange around the ring of each of the mouths. Don’t let the Tyree moniker fool you, though. The coral is relatively inexpensive, with individuals typically being sold for $20-40 a pop depending on the size and color.
