If you’re looking to purchase something new for your aquarium, but want to save wherever possible and don’t want to take a beating on shipping, then group buys might be the way to go. Group buys can be found on many aquarium forums, and it functions just as it sounds. Typically, one hobbyist will organize the purchase, often getting several other hobbyists on board primarily to save on shipping or to leverage the buying power of several people to get better prices on negotiable items. After the order has been finalized, the organizer makes the purchase and distributes the items once they arrive. Payment can be made prior to the actual order or at the time of pickup, depending on the terms laid forth by the organizer. Either way, the group buy represents a great way to get aquarium equipment and livestock at a discounted price.
