We may be getting deeper and deeper into the winter months, but now is the perfect time to do some maintenance on your aquarium chiller. Chances are, you won’t be needing your chiller for a while, so it shouldn’t affect your tank if you were to take it offline and spend some time replacing worn parts or simply giving it a thorough cleaning. Typical chiller maintenance can include recharging the refrigerant, cleaning coils and anything else responsible for dissipating heat, replacing plumbing fittings, or even just redesigning the plumbing layout for a more efficient setup. It’s also a good idea to take note of rust and remove it if possible. Rust will only get worse over time, so it’s crucial to take care of it as soon as possible.
