Tip of the Day – 12/27/2013

When aquascaping a new aquarium, or rearranging things in an existing aquarium, we often adjust the layout based on the overall look and feel that the rocks give the tank. One thing that gets overlooked, however, is accessibility. When building your box of rocks and water, you have to also design it in such a way that you can reach the various places in the tank, as well as install equipment and use things like tongs and magnetic algae scrapers. We’ve see too many cases where a hobbyist would stack rocks too close to a side wall that they couldn’t clean glass without knocking a bunch of stuff over or having to move the rock a tad…which we all know leads to bigger issues. So, be mindful of rock placement in relation to the walls, and account for accessibility…it will make your life a whole lot easier.
