Saltwater presents a lot of unique problems for the environment around it. Besides causing certain metals to rust rather rapidly, the salt can accumulate on many surfaces outside of the aquarium and cause all sorts of issues. As the saltwater splashes out of the tank, it evaporates and deposits salt crystals all over everything. This salt can travel down power cords and plumbing, causing a mess or disrupting powered equipment. That’s why it is important to create drip loops in power cords and always clean off the exterior of your aquarium equipment and plumbing.
