“Experienced” hobbyists are always willing to dole out advice from the standpoint that it worked for them so it must work for you. While the advice may be sound, it may not work for you at all and may only make things worse. Because no two aquariums are alike, the techniques that worked for one person can’t be universally applied to all others. That’s why there are so many varying opinions out there about each and every aspect of the hobby. Toss in pseudoscience and blatantly bad advice, and you’ve got a sea of things to wade through with not a single one being completely perfect for your situation. As you progress through your hobby, it is important to keep that fact in mind, but don’t ignore the advice altogether…just be skeptical about it.
