If you’ve got a barebottom aquarium but want to house sand loving organisms, you aren’t totally out of luck. Certain wrasse species dwell in the sand at night, while other fish live exclusively in burrows, and with a couple pieces of tupperware, you can recreate patches of sandy habitat. Just fill a small tub with sand and place it in an area of low flow, and your livestock will find it. They make make a mess by spilling sand on the bare bottom, but the excess can be siphoned off and easily replaced if necessary.
