When setting up equipment on your marine aquarium, make sure that the plug and power outlet are not lower that the power cable. If the power outlet and plug are the lowest point, water will travel down the cord and accumulate there. Not only will this deposit salt around the plug, but it will present a serious fire hazard. To avoid this buildup, you have to install a drip loop, which is a lot simpler than it sounds. All you have to do is make sure there is enough slack in the cord that it dips below the power outlets so that any dripping water will stop there, not at the plug. For reef builds, it is important to install power outlets high up in the stand, possibly even downward facing.
