Tip of the Day – 10/16/2014

The hobby has progressed technologically by leaps and bounds over the past few decades. Despite that, older technology still persists in our reef and fish only systems even to this day. The reasons for this are two fold. On one hand, you have stubborn hobbyists who either can’t adapt or refuse to. On the other, you have products that are rock solid and just don’t need to be replaced. Older style downdraft skimmers, for example, work very well and could even outperform many of their modern counterparts. But, that technology has faded into the past (to an extent) in favor of higher efficiency products. Couple all of this with the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality, and you’ve got a modern hobby with plenty of nostalgia.
