We have railed against big box pet stores time and time again, but occasionally, you can use one of their biggest downfall to your advantage. These big chain stores get in livestock that gets the good old corporate price. There are some custom price structures in place, but for the most part, it’s all written in a book that the stores just have to comply with. While most items are probably priced pretty close to what you’d see at a local fish store, you can randomly find high-end items for basically dirt cheap. We have heard stories of people buying up expensive fish and frags at huge discounts. At a normal fish store, the person bagging the fish is usually the one who ordered it and is ringing up your total at the register. At the chain stores, there is so much compartmentalization that the person scanning your livestock at the register has no clue whatsoever how much your livestock should be. Heck, the person bagging up your new purchase probably doesn’t know either. So, take advantage when you can, especially if you are on a budget.
