If you want to somewhat automate your water change process, or at least prevent yourself from having to stand at the aquarium and hold onto the return line while the water fills the tank, try adding an outlet adapter from a canister filter (or DIY something with PVC). This will let you hang the tubing on the side of the tank, freeing up your hands to do something else. The only word of warning though is to pay attention to the water level in the tank so you don’t overfill the aquarium.
