A short while back, we wrote a story about the new lighting equipment coming from IceCap Inc. Dubbed the Reef Illuminations, these fixtures sported a combination of all the popular aquarium lighting equipment. There was the metal halide/T5HO/LED combo light fixture and a T5HO/LED combo light fixture.

But IceCap quickly realized that not everyone likes fixtures. Many reef aquarium keepers have canopies and elaborate cooling systems over their reef. And IceCap has responded with their LunaLite LED Retrofit.
According to IceCap, the LunarLite retros will have the same look of a standard T5HO bulb, but instead of being powered by a ballast, they are powered by a low voltage transformer. Additionally, the LunarLites will have an aluminum heat sink on the back side to dissipate heat.

And don’t let the name fool you. The LunarLite’s don’t appear to be targeted for after hours viewing when you aquarium’s main lights turn off. These lights are designed to make your corals pop under some fairly heavy actinics.
The units come in 2ft, 3ft, and 4ft at the moment, and are expected to be available by mid-December.
