We love the Coral Restoration Foundation and all that they do. The non-profit conservation based organization has been a champion of reef conservation for many years, and they have actively engaged the aquarium community to enlist the help of both individuals and companies alike. The latest company to hop on board is Fluval, who sent the famous “Fish Gee” Francis Yupangco to personally hand deliver a check and to get a little one-on-one time with the coral planting process.
As they gear up for the dive, Ken Nedimyer of CRF explains the importance of the corals to the reefs, as well as the steps they are taking to track coral strains and monitor how they do long term. Explaining a little further, Ken expresses the goal of CRF to get the corals spawning. They don’t intend to plant corals all over the reef, but hope that what they are able to accomplish will result in disease and high temperature reistant corals that will spawn on their own and do the repopulation themselves.
Beyond the explanations of what the CRF does and what it hopes to accomplish, there is plenty of gratuitous dive footage showing all sorts of Florida marine life, including a great deal of focus on transplanted corals that are thriving in the wild.
