When Purchasing Electricity, Go Green

Prior to moving into my new place I did a little shopping around for energy service. I was tired of paying for expensive electricity, so I shopped online and found a company that I thought would fit my situation best. I called Gexa Energy and was discussing rates with the operator when she began telling me about 100% renewable energy sources. Being a conservationist at heart, I was intrigued and asked her to tell me more about it. The phone operator told me how Gexa Energy could offer me electricity that came from wind, solar, and other 100% renewable resources and for only 11.3 cents per kilowatt hour, give or take. I immediately told her yes to signing me up for the 100% renewable energy plan, even though it was slightly more expensive than the normal plan. And despite being only slightly more expensive than the regular plan, it was over four cents per kilowatt hour cheaper than my previous power company and on top of that it was environmentally friendly.

So, when shopping around for your own energy plan, pay a few cents extra for the more environmentally friendly plan. It may cost you a few extra bucks a month, but you’ll be doing the world a favor.
