How would you like to be diving near a gorgeous reef only to find yourself face-to-face with an alligator? That’s right, underwater photographer and videographer Lazaro Ruda of TheLivingSea.com encountered an American alligator while diving on a reef approximately one mile off the shores of Palm Beach, Florida. Since alligators are so common to Florida, why is this such a rare encounter? Well, alligators are freshwater reptiles. They can tolerate saltwater to some extent, but not nearly as much as their cousins the saltwater crocodile. To see this American alligator about a mile out in the ocean is an extremely rare occurrence.
