Sometimes life gives you times of peace and prosperity, then it decides to flip you the middle finger while it crushes all of your dreams. I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy the prosperous times, though it hasn’t been without plenty of stress and hard work. But for the moment, it seems that my little universe is in the process of “evening out”, so to speak. You may have noticed some sporadic and sometimes absent postings on the blog as of late, which is sort of what brought this all on. Twin newborn girls has been a lot of that cause, which is part of those prosperous times, but yesterday’s lack of articles was all due to something else entirely.
This previous Saturday, I was traveling to work and I got into a pretty serious car accident. Long story short, a vehicle in the lane next to mine decided they wanted to, well, be in my lane but at a significantly slower pace. I avoided colliding with that person, but in doing so lost control of my vehicle, shot across three lanes of traffic, and nailed a concrete median. The car is totaled (not officially, but I’m sure it is) and I’ve been in quite a bit of pain and discomfort over the past few days. I walked away without any significant injuries and I even managed to make in to work that morning (just a half hour late), so I’m very fortunate in that respect.
To make matters worse, my aquarium sprung a leak and I’ve been working on those issues. The leak is slow and the aquarium is located in the garage, so I’ve not had to jump into full on response mode just yet. But, it’s something that will occupy even more of my time. To add even more insult to injury, I had a small glass aquarium in the trunk of my car at the time of the accident. I had put it in my trunk because a local hobbyist was going to buy it at the end of last year. That buyer flaked out, but I kept it in my car because numerous others were interested. The tank survived the car accident, but it did suffer a small chip that might turn a lot of potential buyers off. It’s not like the tank is worth a whole lot, but it’s just another unfortunate victim of my newfound bad luck.
The bright spot in all of this is that I’ve managed to stay healthy, not suffering any major injuries during the accident and still being able to come home to my three beautiful daughters and my amazing wife. So, life isn’t all that bad, but it can be hard at times.
