Introducing Fritz FritzIck

0

Fritz FixIck is a brand new product that promises to treat fish with external parasites such as Ich, Chilodonella, Trichodina and Tetrahymena in an all new way. The all new product replaces Fritz Quick Cure, which was deemed hazardous in the U.S. Jacob, from Fritz Aquatics, tells us that the company has been perfecting the formula for the last 3 years and as of July 2020, it is now available at authorized Fritz Aquatics dealers.

As one of the most common diseases most aquarists will encounter, finding an Ick treatment that is simple, safe, and highly effective can be difficult. Fritz FixIck does not contain formaldehyde, a common active ingredient in many ick treatments. Formaldehyde will cause damage to gills and internal organs, which can result in additional stress and fish loss. One of the active ingredients in Fritz FixIck is Gentian Violet, which gives it a recognizable purple hue. This compound is much gentler than malachite green based treatments. Also, improving on previous treatments, Fritz FixIck has been shown to be effective at killing Ick parasites with a simple 2-dose system, with no reinfection after one week. Due to Fritz FixIck’s additional antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, secondary infections were also prevented with no additional medications, resulting in even higher recovery rates.

Directions & Dosage

Before Dosing: Adjust temperature to 82-85°F. This accelerates the life cycle of the parasites and insures maximum exposure to the treatment. Remove all chemical filtration (carbon, ion exchange resins) before use. Turn off protein skimmers before treatment; resume use after completion of treatment. Do not perform water changes during treatment if possible. If water changes are necessary, treat replacement water with FixIck. The product is purple in color so it can stain some ornaments. Fritz recommends removing them prior to dosing. Once the treatment is complete, simply add the ornamentals back to the aquarium.

Treatment: Shake well before each dose. One complete course of treatment will take six days. If fish are eating, feed lightly during the treatment period.

  • Day 1: Add 5 ml (1 tsp) per 10 gallons
  • Day 2: Add 5 ml (1 tsp) per 10 gallons
  • Day 3: Perform a 25 to 30% water change
  • Day 4: Add 5 ml (1 tsp) per 10 gallons
  • Day 5: Add 5 ml (1 tsp) per 10 gallons
  • Day 6: Perform a 25 to 30% water change.

If necessary, you may perform a second six-day course of treatment. If no further symptoms are observed, replace chemical filtration and resume use of protein skimmers as well as normal feeding. Adjust temperature back to normal.

It is worth mentioning that FritzIck is not reef safe! It is designed to work in fish only systems, quarantine tanks or hospital tanks. For Reef Safe bacterial and parasitic treatments please refer to  Fritz’s Bactrashield and Parashield. Both products are highly effective at treating bacterial and parasitic outbreaks in a reef aquarium where corals and other invertebrates are present.
