Ever wonder what it’s like behind the scenes at Oceans Reefs & Aquariums, otherwise known as ORA? Well, thanks to a Fish Tank Kings video clip courtesy of Advanced Aquarist, we get a brief glimpse into the Florida based facility. This clip follows Living Color Aquariums on their hunt for sustainable corals for a client’s massive reef aquarium, and given ORA’s status as the largest supplier of aquacultured livestock, the decision to hunt there was a no brainer. As can be seen in the video clip, ORA works primarily out of a large greenhouse facility. Their rows and rows of stock tanks are filled with corals growing out and awaiting the order from your local fish store.
The most telling thing about this clip is the persistence of Living Color Aquariums and National Geographic to make a quality television show that promotes aquaculture and education within the hobby. Sure, there’s some cutting up and reality tv theatrics, but we’re pleased with what we’ve seen in terms of promoting responsible aquarium trade. Of course, the inaugural season of Fish Tank Kings is still very young, but we hope that the rest of the season has moments like this.
