MASNA Giving Away $2500 Scholarship to Students

The Marine Aquarium Societies of North America (MASNA) recently announced that they will be giving away a $2500 college scholarship to one lucky student. To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be a current college student or entering into an accredited college or university as an undergraduate or graduate, with a declared major in any of the marine sciences. Any student from any part of the world is eligible to participate, provided they are enrolled in a college in North America. Additionally, any North American student studying abroad is also eligible for the scholarship. A committee of five members will pour over the applications, selecting the winner based on his or her academic history and commitment to the saltwater aquarium hobby. The committee will consist of one member from an academic background, one from with a background in government, one from history in industry, as well as a previous MASNA scholarship winner, and finally a MASNA director.

Deadlines to submit your information for the scholarship end on July 1, 2011 and the winner will be announced at MACNA XXIII in Des Moines, Iowa. So quit procrastinating college students and high school seniors with senioritis, get those entries in.

APPLICATION DETAILS & ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Applications for the $2500 MASNA Student Scholarship are available for download here. Selection of the winner will be made by a special MASNA scholarship committee. The committee will have five members: one from Academia, one from Government, a previous MASNA award winner, one from Industry, and a MASNA Director.

To be eligible for the MASNA Student Scholarship, applicants must be a current/entering graduate or undergraduate student at an accredited college or university.  North American students, no matter where in the world they are studying, are eligable, in addition to any student from abroad who is studying in North America.

The student must have declared a major or have an intent to declare a major in one of the marine sciences. Selection will be based upon the student’s academic history and the student’s contributions and demonstrated commitment to the marine aquarium hobby.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

To apply, gather and prepare the following items:

    • The completed 3 page application form.
    • Personal Statement (up to 750 words max).
    • Current Resume.
    • An up to date official transcript from your current educational institution.
