When prepping and storing a batch of freshly made RO/DI water for your automatic top off system or for manual topping off, be sure to circulate the water and don’t allow it to stagnate. Let’s face it, our reverse osmosis filters don’t get everything out of the tap water, and when left uncovered and sitting motionless for hours, even the filtered water can become oxygen depleted and contaminated by who knows what. The water may seem fine, but adding it to the aquarium may cause some problems. It’s not a likely scenario, but there’s no reason to risk it, especially when you’ve already got a ton of spare mixing pumps and air pumps laying around that could help circulate the water prior to actually needing it.
