Although SPS corals typically require high intensity lighting in order to thrive, in some cases they will actually color up or even grow better under more subdued lighting. Of course, this is species dependent and it doesn’t always work this way in captivity because the light fixtures from one aquarist to the other usually differ greatly. Still, a coral might do lot better under less light, and aquarium keepers should move corals around or experiment with different lighting schemes to find out what works best.
