Having issues with power outages during stormy weather? Well, besides blinking alarm clocks and microwaves, our aquarium equipment can also be affected. Pumps lose power, as do protein skimmers, aquarium controllers, and light timers. And when the power comes back on, those various pieces of equipment don’t always function perfectly. Water pumps can have difficulties getting started if they need to be primed, and we all know how light timers losing power affects when they come back on. Protein skimmer usually don’t have many problems, but upon restarting, they can overflow the collection cup and dump all that skimmate back into the aquarium. Long story short, when the power goes out, it’s always good to double check the functionality of your equpiment to ensure things start back up and operate normally.
